  • Survey: Mapping of Effective Models for Evaluation Management

What is your Evaluation Management Style?

The quality and usefulness of an evaluation are shaped not only by the technical expertise of the evaluation team but also by the effectiveness of the evaluation's management, including communication about results and tracking systems of the management response to recommendations. Independent evaluation offices within international development agencies employ various approaches and modalities. The IAES evaluation function of CGIAR is conducting a study to explore the management practices used in evaluation offices within global organizations. The study will help the IAES and the CGIAR in making evaluation results more relevant, timely, and useful.

The survey aims to understand managers’ perceptions of current evaluation management practices' effectiveness. It covers key aspects of managing independent evaluations and the level of involvement required from evaluation managers, including designing evaluations, choosing between contracting individual consultants or firms, data collection arrangements, communicating results with the organization leadership, using evaluation results, management response processes, use of artificial intelligence (AI), etc.

On the same topic, a few months ago, we had an engaging conversation on the EvalForward community of practice about roles of an evaluation manager and exploring the link between management models and the use of evaluations. One of the key insights that emerged from the discussion was the importance of balancing the involvement and independence of evaluation managers. This balance is seen as important to ensure that evaluations are both thorough and unbiased. As a follow-up to the discussion, we’re conducting this survey to delve deeper into some of the topics we covered, including this balance.

We would appreciate if you could take a few minutes to complete the also survey on evaluation management styles.  The summary of results will be shared on this website, allowing you to also learn about different management approaches and their effectiveness.

Best regards,

The IAES Evaluation function
