How can evaluation challenge power imbalances and strengthen democratic legitimacy?
We are pleased to announce that the CGIAR Evaluation Function will be present at the 2026 European Evaluation Society Conference (EES2026) cosponsoring a compelling session on “Evaluation, Power and Democratic Legitimacy: Who Sets the Terms?”.
The session will draw on Social Network Analysis (SNA) conducted for CGIAR’s Genebanks Platform and Science Group evaluations and will use SNA methodologies as a prime case study to demonstrate how mapping complex stakeholder relationships can actively deconstruct traditional power hierarchies, foster democratic legitimacy, and ensure diverse voices are genuinely counted.
