SPIA is excited to announce the expansion of the National Data Systems team with two Bangladesh-based positions. This is the fourth country-focused recruitment initiated, following Ethiopia, Uganda, and Vietnam. Bangladesh completes a set of high-priority countries for CGIAR in which SPIA works with national partners to identify opportunities for integrating data collection protocols in nationally-representative household surveys. The 2020 synthesis report on Ethiopia shows the template for this work – the team integrated new data collection protocols into the 2018/19 Ethiopia Socioeconomic Survey, a dataset that has since been downloaded over 20,000 times and is being used in numerous research projects.

The post-doctoral fellow will be the technical lead on the project in Bangladesh. The position is ideal for an economist with research interests at the intersection of agriculture, environment and/or development.

As for almost all positions in CGIAR, it is hosted by one of CGIAR’s 15 research centers around the world. In this case, SPIA is fortunate to be supported in Bangladesh by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). The post-holders will be IRRI employees and benefits and conditions are those of internationally-recruited staff at IRRI. The local administrative team for IRRI stand ready to provide full logistical and administrative support to these positions, and SPIA will provide technical and managerial direction through our weekly team Zoom calls and by email.
